UV Reactive Purple Fluorite with Calcite — Fujian Province, China UV Reactive Purple Fluorite with Calcite — Fujian Province, China
Weight: 430 g
Approx. size: 9 × 7 × 5 cm
UV response: Strong electric blue (365 nm)
This is a natural purple fluorite crystal cluster with calcite, sourced from Fujian Province, a region well known for producing fluorite with excellent crystal form and strong ultraviolet fluorescence.
The specimen displays classic cubic fluorite crystals with stepped growth, showing natural colour zoning from soft lavender to deeper purple. A later generation of calcite has crystallised on top, forming the rounded, pale nodule visible on the surface and adding a striking point of contrast.
Formation & age
This specimen formed in a hydrothermal environment, where hot, mineral-rich fluids moved through fractures in carbonate rock deep underground.
-
Fluorite crystallised first, growing slowly into interlocking cubes
-
Changes in fluid chemistry later allowed calcite to crystallise on top
-
The result is a clear example of multi-stage crystal growth, rather than a single formation event
Based on the geological setting of fluorite deposits in Fujian Province, specimens like this are thought to have formed approximately 90–120 million years ago, during the Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous.
UV fluorescence
Under 365 nm ultraviolet light, the fluorite fluoresces an intense, saturated electric blue, transforming its appearance and highlighting the crystal structure. The calcite also shows a blue UV response, adding further depth and visual interest.
This is a collector-grade UV specimen, selected specifically for its strong and consistent fluorescence.
Condition
This is a fully natural, unpolished specimen.
As with many fluorite crystals, the base shows natural crystalline fragility, which is a normal characteristic of the mineral. Minor surface shedding can occur with handling. The piece is structurally stable for display and will be carefully packed to minimise movement during transit.
No repairs, stabilisation, or artificial enhancement.
